Not knowing the why.

Sometimes I look at the things that go on around me and I and I look to the heavens and ask "Why Lord?" There are so many things that I cannot comprehend or understand. Usually when I do understand them it is with experience, hindsight, and distance between me and the event. It is only then that I recognize the subtle hand of the divine in what was going on. Other times I never see what was the purpose in what was going on. It is then that I have to go back to my foundations and check myself to see if I am missing something I need to have in my life.
This week my brother-in-laws wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy. It was cause for great celebration and excitement. In contrast today other extended family suffered a tragedy with the death of a newborn baby girl with a severe medical condition. Both women had difficulty getting pregnant and both had difficult pregnancies. One child lives and another child dies. These great polar opposite situations, like others before it, beg the question "Why?" And I have no answer to give. Having lost those close to me before I can only offer my sympathy and say "I stand with you. Anything you need that I can give is yours. Don't hesitate to ask. And if you don't feel like you can ask I will be checking in from time to time to see those needs, asked for or not, are met."
So instead of asking "Why?" I will be asking "What does this require of me?" Then I will move forward and do what I can, when I can, as often as I can. God Speed. God Bless.
